Heroic Rescue in Gorakhpur: PAC Saves Young Man from Drowning in Rapti River

Gorakhpur, August 18: In response to the flooding situation in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has instructed local administration to be fully prepared for relief and rescue operations. As part of these efforts, rescue teams are being deployed in flood-affected and vulnerable areas, equipped with necessary resources including motorboats, and personnel are receiving training for rescue operations.

This preparedness was evident in Gorakhpur when a young man was saved from drowning in the Rapti River by the flood relief team. The individual had jumped into the river from Naushad Ramghat and quickly began to struggle in the deep waters. The 26th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) acted swiftly, launching a rescue operation using a motorboat.

Chaos erupted at Ramghat on Friday evening when the young man attempted to take his own life by jumping into the river. The flood relief team from the 26th Battalion, stationed at the site, immediately initiated the rescue operation upon witnessing the incident.

According to the 26th Battalion PAC in Gorakhpur, Umesh Kumar, a resident of Dhankhata in Sant Kabir Nagar, jumped into the river around 6 PM. At that time, a team from the PAC was present at Ramghat for flood relief training and duty. Head Constable Mahatma Prasad quickly took charge upon seeing the young man struggling in the water.

Under Mahatma Prasad’s leadership, the team launched their motorboat into the river and began searching for the drowning individual. They successfully located him in a remarkably short time. Following the rescue, the young man was handed over to local police for necessary actions, and he is now reported to be in stable condition.

The courageous rescue operation involved Head Constable Mahatma Prasad along with Constables Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Krishnachand Maurya, Ramesh Yadav, Manoj Shukla, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Gautam, and Dheerendra Gond. The promptness and dedication of the rescue team were also commended by the team leader and the officer in charge of Rajghat police station.
