Heavy Rain Alert Issued for South Chhattisgarh

Raipur, September 4 (Kiran News): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in parts of South Chhattisgarh on Thursday, under the influence of a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal.

A yellow alert has been issued, with forecasts of moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several districts over the coming days. The IMD has advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

In the past 24 hours, widespread rainfall was recorded across Bilaspur, Sarguja, Raipur, and Bastar divisions. The maximum temperature was reported at 31.6°C in Durg, while the minimum was 20.5°C in Rajnandgaon.

Meteorologist H.P. Chandra said the low-pressure system is located over northwest Bay of Bengal and off the north Odisha coast, with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level. The system is expected to move towards north Odisha, Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the monsoon trough extends from Bikaner to east-central Bay of Bengal via Jaipur, Damoh, Pendra Road, and Sambalpur.

Due to these weather systems, heavy rainfall is likely today in Raipur, Sukma, Bijapur, South Bastar, Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Balodabazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Jashpur, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Durg, Bemetara, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Sarguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur. Light to moderate showers with thunder and lightning are expected across most other areas.

In the last 24 hours, Kusmi, Masturi, and Takhatpur recorded the highest rainfall at 90 mm, followed by 80 mm in Chiredi. Pendra Road, Bade Chcheri, Gariaband, and Bhairamgarh reported around 70 mm, while several other areas recorded between 50 and 60 mm of rain.
