Haryana Government Suspends Four Senior Medical Officials Over Gender Ratio Concerns

Chandigarh, May 19: In a decisive administrative move, the Haryana government has suspended four senior medical officials due to concerns over the deteriorating gender ratio in the state. This action was taken on Tuesday in response to allegations of poor performance and failure to effectively monitor measures aimed at improving this critical demographic aspect.

The suspension signals the government’s strict stance against negligence in implementing programs designed to curb illegal sex determination and female foeticide, as well as to strengthen gender balance in the state.

According to an order issued by Dr. Sumita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, the suspended officials include Dr. Tina Anand, SMO of the Community Health Center (CHC) in Purkhas, Sonipat; Dr. Vijay Parmar, SMO of the CHC in Radaur, Yamunanagar; Dr. Satpal, SMO of the CHC in Chiri, Rohtak; and Dr. Prabha, Medical Officer at the CHC in Sahlang, Narnaul.

During the suspension period, these officials will be attached to the Civil Surgeon offices in Rohtak, Ambala, Jhajjar, and Rewari. The government has also initiated disciplinary proceedings against them under Rule 7 of the Haryana Civil Services Rules, 2016. The order specifically cites their failure to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of measures related to improving the gender ratio as the reason for this stringent action.

Haryana’s gender ratio has been concerning, with a figure of 895 recorded in the first four months of this year, significantly lower than last year’s 925. Several districts have seen a drastic decline, with the lowest ratio in Charkhi Dadri at 769 girls per 1,000 boys, followed by Ambala at 843, Mahendragarh at 847, Gurugram at 863, and Jind at 872.

In contrast, Karnal has shown the best performance with a ratio of 968 girls per 1,000 boys, followed by Faridabad and Kurukshetra, both at 932.
