Chandigarh, May 3: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini urged the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Punjab to unite, emphasizing that their collective strength can bring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power in the state. He stated that the BJP works collaboratively with all communities, ensuring equal representation for everyone.
While addressing an OBC gathering in Rupnagar, CM Saini questioned the timing of a special session of the Punjab Assembly on International Labour Day, suggesting it mocked the labor force and reflected an anti-poor mindset. He noted that the people of Punjab, who had given a significant mandate to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), are now disillusioned with the government’s performance.
Referring to the confidence motion presented in the Assembly, Saini urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to clarify how many promises made during the last elections have been fulfilled. He highlighted the large participation of the OBC community, indicating their growing awareness of their rights and future, which he believes will lead to social and political change.
Saini remarked on the proud history of the OBC community, which has significantly contributed to nation-building. However, he lamented that they have not received the respect and opportunities they deserve in Punjab for a long time.
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing social justice through policies and intentions. “The Prime Minister himself comes from the OBC community and has worked to bring the backward and poorer sections into the mainstream,” he said.
Saini emphasized that the BJP does not view the OBC community merely as a vote bank but empowers them by placing them in leadership roles. He mentioned that there are 27 OBC ministers in the central cabinet and OBC chief ministers in five BJP-ruled states, showcasing respect for the community.
He further noted that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the OBC Commission has been granted constitutional status, marking a historic step. The OBC community has also been allocated 27% reservation in medical and higher education, increasing opportunities for youth.
Saini called on the OBC community to unite and strengthen the BJP in Punjab. He urged them to prepare for the upcoming elections and raise awareness about the party at the grassroots level. He accused the Punjab government of injustice towards the OBC community, encouraging people to unite and voice their rights.
