New Delhi, June 7: The Indian women’s cricket team is currently in England for the T20 World Cup 2026. Following their victory in the 2025 ODI World Cup, Team India is seen as a strong contender for the T20 title as well. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur noted that an increasing number of fans are engaging with women’s cricket. This growing support motivates the team to consistently improve and perform better.
In an exclusive interview, Harmanpreet stated, “I try not to think too much about external pressure. My focus is on preparation, contributing to the team, and staying in the moment. Over the years, I have realized that expectations will always be there at this level. The key is to not let them distract us from our process.”
Discussing the hard work put in at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Harmanpreet mentioned, “Such camps help build rhythm and confidence as a group before a major tournament. Young players get the opportunity to spend more time in a competitive environment with experienced players. We have worked significantly on clarifying each player’s role within the team, which is crucial in T20 cricket where conditions change rapidly. The support staff ensured that our preparation was not only physical but also mental and strategic.”
On her aggressive batting style in T20, Harmanpreet said, “T20 cricket is constantly evolving. As players, we need to adapt to the demands of the game. Being more aggressive doesn’t mean completely changing my natural game; it means being proactive and taking calculated risks based on the situation. Discussions with coach Amol Sir have helped identify areas where I can apply more pressure on bowlers and explore better scoring options.”
In addition to her batting, Harmanpreet is also a highly energetic fielder. She commented, “Batting will always be special to me, but fielding provides a different kind of satisfaction as it is all about awareness, commitment, and reacting instantly to opportunities. Diving, chasing the ball, and putting in extra effort also inspire teammates and elevate the intensity of the game on the field.”
When asked to choose between taking a catch or executing a run-out, Harmanpreet replied, “As a fielder, you always have the chance to impact the game, whether it’s by taking a catch, saving crucial runs, or creating a run-out opportunity. There’s a unique thrill in taking difficult catches, but diving to stop boundaries or contributing to a run-out can be equally rewarding as it helps the team in critical moments.”
Regarding the growing engagement of audiences with women’s cricket, the Indian captain remarked, “When people actively discuss matches, players, performances, and key moments in real-time, it enhances emotional connection and visibility for the sport. Such conversations help normalize the game within mainstream cricket culture.”
