Ahmedabad, March 9: India clinched the T20 World Cup 2026 title with a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand. All-rounder Hardik Pandya contributed significantly, scoring 18 runs and taking one wicket. Throughout the tournament, Pandya played all nine matches, amassing 217 runs at an average of 27.12 and claiming nine wickets.
In the final match held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India set a formidable target of 255 runs, losing five wickets. New Zealand, in response, was bowled out for just 159 runs in 19 overs.
Following the victory, Pandya expressed his ambitions, stating, “I have another 10 years of cricket left in me, and I want to win 10 more ICC titles. That is my goal.”
Reflecting on the emotional moment of winning on home soil, he said, “It’s a very emotional moment. Winning the World Cup in India and witnessing the excitement of the people is incredible. In the final match, Sanju Samson scored 89 runs, partnering with Ishan Kishan for a remarkable 105 runs off just 48 balls for the second wicket, propelling India to a massive score.
