Sirsa, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the leader of the Dera Sacha Sauda, has concluded his 21-day furlough and is set to return to Sunaria Jail in Rohtak. His return is scheduled for Wednesday, following a period during which the number of followers visiting the Dera complex in Sirsa significantly increased.
In light of security concerns, the Dera management has opted not to disclose the exact time or details of Ram Rahim’s return. Both police and administrative authorities are on high alert to prevent any disturbances during the transition. Reports indicate that he will be transported back to jail discreetly under tight security.
This marks the 17th occasion in nearly nine years that Ram Rahim has been released on parole or furlough. This year alone, he has been granted temporary release three times. Previously, he spent 40 days outside in January and 30 days in May before returning to Sunaria Jail on June 25. Following this latest 21-day furlough, he will again be incarcerated.
Ram Rahim is currently serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two female disciples and a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. He has been incarcerated since 2017. While rules allow for prisoners to receive parole and furloughs, the frequency of Ram Rahim’s releases has raised numerous questions and concerns.
The highest Sikh religious authority, the Akal Takht, has expressed strong objections to this furlough. Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Garg has highlighted the issue of long-term Sikh prisoners who remain incarcerated while Ram Rahim continues to receive repeated paroles and furloughs.
Additionally, Anshul Chhatrapati, the son of the murdered journalist, has voiced his opposition to the decision. He stated that the repeated paroles create a sense of insecurity among the victim’s families.
