Kohima, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Nagaland government is working on a framework to establish a robust live entertainment economy, with the aim of driving economic growth, creating jobs, and boosting tourism in the state.
A meeting chaired by Orenthung Lotha, Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Directorate, focused on developing this framework. Lotha emphasized the growing significance of the live entertainment sector, urging that it should not only be viewed as a cultural expression but also as a viable economic area capable of generating revenue, creating employment opportunities, and promoting related industries.
He highlighted the need to devise strategies that would allow local stakeholders to reap long-term economic benefits from large-scale events, thereby contributing to the state’s economy.
According to Lotha, Nagaland possesses a wealth of cultural heritage, musical talent, a creative community, and enthusiastic youth, which can serve as a strong foundation for building a vibrant live entertainment ecosystem.
The Secretary also stressed the importance of coordination and collaboration among different departments, noting that hosting major national and international events would require a combined effort from various government bodies and stakeholders.
Zuvinuo Thyunuo, Director of Information and Public Relations, praised the involvement of ‘LiveNow’ in preparing the framework for the state.
Atsunglir Jamir, Director of LiveNow, presented an initial study that covered the current state and potential of the live entertainment sector in Nagaland. He pointed out that through skill development, job creation, entrepreneurship, and tourism promotion, this sector could emerge as a significant contributor to the state’s economy.
Jamir emphasized that a thriving live entertainment ecosystem could create new opportunities for local artists, performers, event professionals, technicians, production crews, and other service providers, ultimately generating employment and livelihood options for the youth.
He also underscored the necessity to strengthen and upgrade existing infrastructure and facilities to enable the state to host national and international events.
Improved infrastructure, he noted, would enhance Nagaland’s capacity to attract large events and help establish the state as a destination for entertainment, culture, and experiential tourism.
The LiveNow team set several short-term goals, including positioning Nagaland as a hub for entertainment in the Northeast, attracting major national and international events, and developing “Nagaland Live” as a distinct brand representing the state’s live entertainment ecosystem.
The meeting concluded with discussions on the findings and recommendations from the initial study, emphasizing the need for further dialogue with relevant stakeholders and departments to create a comprehensive and actionable live entertainment economy framework.
LiveNow has been appointed as a consultant to develop this framework, leveraging over a decade of experience in the live entertainment sector to assist the state in crafting a strategic plan tailored to Nagaland’s cultural and economic context.
