Maddur, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : In Maddur, Karnataka, a large Ganesh immersion procession organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) is set to take place on Wednesday. Following last year’s incidents of stone-pelting and communal unrest, local authorities are on high alert.
To ensure safety, police have implemented stringent security measures. Additional forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents or riots. Special security has been enhanced near the mosque along the procession route. Drone cameras will monitor the entire Ganesh procession, allowing for close surveillance of all activities.
As a precaution, the district administration has imposed a complete ban on alcohol sales in Maddur for the day. Bars and restaurants will also remain closed to maintain public order.
Last year’s Ganesh procession in Maddur was marred by stone-pelting, which sparked communal riots, creating significant tension in the area. The BJP-JDS alliance aims to convey a message of unity this year, learning from the previous disturbances.
This year, a collective immersion of 108 Ganesh idols is being organized by the ‘Dosti’ group. In recognition of the public sentiment towards Lord Ganesh, the BJP and JDS are collaborating for this event. A large procession will precede the mass immersion, navigating through the main streets of Maddur. Approximately 10,000 participants are expected to join the march.
Politically, this procession holds significant importance. The BJP and JDS plan to signal the start of their election campaign through this event. State-level leaders from the alliance are expected to attend, with the main gathering taking place near the mosque on Pet Street, where prominent BJP and JDS figures will be present.
