Sanaa, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Houthi group in Yemen has reported that Saudi Arabian fighter jets carried out 52 airstrikes across five provinces in the past 24 hours. This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing border conflict between the two parties.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced on social media that the attacks were executed by F-15 and Typhoon aircraft. He stated that these jets took off from airbases in Khamis Mushait and Taif, located in southwestern and western Saudi Arabia, respectively.
According to Saree, the airstrikes targeted Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province, northern Al-Jawf, central Al-Bayda, as well as northern Saada and Amran provinces. He accused the Saudi forces of hitting civilian infrastructure, including schools, bridges, and roads.
Saree emphasized that there would be a response to these attacks. However, as of now, there has been no immediate comment from Saudi officials regarding the Houthi claims, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Al-Masirah TV, operated by the Houthi group, reported that three civilians, including two children, were killed in the airstrikes on the districts of Dhubab and Makbana in Taiz province. Additionally, two other individuals sustained injuries.
The channel also mentioned that there were attacks on a government facility in the Khadir district, southeast of Taiz, but did not provide further details on casualties.
These airstrikes followed missile and drone attacks by the Houthi group on Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif on Monday, which reportedly injured 13 civilians. In response, the Saudi-led coalition vowed to take “responsible and strict” action.
The increase in cross-border conflict comes after the Houthi group launched a new military campaign on September 3, altering the frontlines along Yemen’s Red Sea coast. Reports indicate that Houthi fighters captured the strategically important port city of Mocha on September 10 and subsequently moved toward the Bab-el-Mandeb area, seizing control of Mayyun Island on September 11.
The conflict in Yemen began in late 2014 when the Houthi group took control of the capital, Sana’a, and large parts of northern Yemen. In March 2015, a Saudi-led coalition began military intervention in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
Tensions continue to rise as both sides engage in escalating military actions.
