New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Vishwakarma Puja, a significant festival in Hinduism, honors Lord Vishwakarma, regarded as the divine architect and craftsman of the gods. This celebration holds special importance for those involved in construction, architecture, craftsmanship, and technical fields. On this day, people worship machines, tools, and equipment at factories, shops, and workshops, believing that such rituals bring success, progress, and prosperity.
This year, Vishwakarma Puja will be observed on September 17, 2026, which falls on a Thursday. The festival is also known as Vishwakarma Jayanti and coincides with Kanya Sankranti.
The auspicious time for the rituals is from 7:58 AM to 12:40 PM. The Abhijit Muhurat, considered particularly favorable, will occur between 11:51 AM and 12:40 PM.
In religious beliefs, Lord Vishwakarma is depicted as the divine creator for the gods, presiding over craftsmanship, construction, and architecture. Therefore, the worship on this day extends beyond just the idol or image of Lord Vishwakarma; it also includes the tools and machines used in daily work.
Whether it’s a factory machine, shop equipment, workshop tools, or vehicles, all are cleaned and included in the worship. This festival symbolizes hard work, skill, and respect for labor.
On the day of the puja, it is customary to bathe and wear clean clothes. Start by thoroughly cleaning the prayer space and workplace. Clean the machines, tools, and other equipment as well. Then, place a clean cloth on a platform and set up the image or idol of Lord Vishwakarma.
Light a lamp and offer items such as roli, akshat, sandalwood, flowers, garlands, fruits, sweets, and naivedya to the deity. The worship space can be purified with Ganga water. Following this, chant mantras while meditating on Lord Vishwakarma. Apply roli and akshat to the tools and machines, and offer flowers. Conclude with the aarti and distribute prasad among all present. Some devotees also perform havan on this day.
