Washington, April 26: Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanch stated that initial investigations suggest the assailant at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner may have aimed at Donald Trump and his administration officials.
In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Blanch indicated that the motive behind the attack is still under investigation and may take days to clarify. He noted, “We believe the attacker was targeting administration officials, but this is still an early assessment.”
According to Blanch, potential targets could include the President of the United States. However, he refrained from making definitive comments, urging patience until the investigation concludes.
He revealed that the suspect is not cooperating with investigators and will face serious charges, including assault on a federal officer, use of a weapon, and attempted murder of a federal official.
Investigative agencies believe the suspect traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago by train before arriving in Washington, D.C. He stayed at the hotel where the event took place. Reports are also being examined that claim the suspect prepared weapons inside the hotel.
Blanch mentioned, “He barely made it to the perimeter of the security detail, and that was only a few feet away.”
On Saturday evening, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., attended by media and political figures. Suddenly, gunfire erupted, prompting security personnel to evacuate President Trump and other top officials from the hall. The assailant, reported to be 31 years old, was apprehended by security.
