Paris, August 5: A late-night shooting in Valence, a southeastern city in France, left six people injured, two of whom are reported to be in critical condition. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM local time on Tuesday, as an assailant opened fire on a group of individuals using an assault rifle before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, the victims include five young men and one young woman, aged between 15 and 22. All have been hospitalized, with two in serious condition.
The attacker remains at large, and authorities have yet to identify him or determine the motive behind the shooting. An investigation is ongoing. A burned vehicle, believed to be used in the attack, was later found a few kilometers from the scene.
This shooting follows a knife attack in Paris on July 27, where three people were injured and one suspect was arrested. The earlier incident occurred in the northwestern part of Paris, where a man armed with two kitchen knives attacked pedestrians. The injured were taken to the hospital, with two in serious condition.
The suspect in the knife attack was apprehended by a police officer present at the scene, who was off-duty at the time. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez informed the media that the suspect provided only a vague identity and made “confused and unclear statements.”
Several videos related to the incident surfaced on social media. One video shows the suspect being subdued while making religious comments, stating, “It was Allah’s command.”
This shooting incident comes just a day after another attack in Berlin, Germany, where a van plowed into a crowd near Tiergarten Park. The driver then attacked pedestrians with a weapon, resulting in one woman’s death and injuries to 29 others.
