New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Regular captain Hayley Matthews will lead the West Indies women’s team in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. Following this series, she will take personal leave and will not participate in the T20 matches. Star all-rounder Deandra Dottin has also been granted personal leave for the entire tour.
The Harare Sports Club will host three ODI matches on September 24, 27, and 30. After the ODIs, both teams will move to the Takashinga Cricket Club for three T20 matches scheduled for October 3, 5, and 7. This ODI series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad for the white-ball tour of Zimbabwe. All-rounder Ebony Brethwaite has been included in place of Dottin, and she is a potential player for the Under-19 World Cup. Pace-bowling all-rounder Chinelle Henry is returning from injury, which affected her T20 World Cup campaign in England and Wales this past summer. Henry will replace Kiana Joseph, who is out of the tour due to poor form.
Matthews will leave the team after the ODI series, reducing the squad for the T20 series from 15 to 14 players. However, CWI has not yet announced a captain for the 20-over series.
The team has retained its key players following a successful tour of Ireland and a strong performance in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The West Indies women’s team includes: Hayley Matthews (captain – for ODIs only), Aaliyah Alleyne, Ebony Brethwaite, Shemaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Afy Fletcher, Jenilia Glasgow, Rialiana Grimond, Shakera Selman, Chinelle Henry, Jade James, Mandy Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharak, and Stafanie Taylor.
