Imphal, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : In Imphal, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh extended his best wishes on Saturday to 36 athletes and three coaches from Manipur who will represent India at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. This event is set to begin on Saturday and will continue until October 4.
According to officials, the athletes from Manipur will compete in various sports, including Sepak Takraw, rowing, cycling, fencing, canoeing, kayaking, boxing, weightlifting, wushu, judo, and hockey. The contingent comprises 12 athletes in Sepak Takraw, one in rowing, three in cycling, three in fencing, six in canoeing and kayaking, one in boxing, three in weightlifting, three in wushu, one in judo, and three in hockey.
The Asian Games bring together athletes from across Asia for one of the continent’s largest multi-sport events. Chief Minister Singh congratulated all players and coaches for this opportunity to represent the country. He encouraged them to compete with confidence, discipline, and determination, urging them to deliver their best performances in their respective events.
In a social media post, Singh stated, “I encourage our players to compete with confidence, discipline, and determination. I wish for the Asian Games to be successful and memorable. May they bring pride to Manipur and our nation.”
The 20th edition of the Asian Games will see over 500 Indian athletes competing in 37 sports. Athletes from 45 countries and regions will participate in 43 sports and 469 medal events. This marks the third time Japan has hosted this continental multi-sport event, having previously done so in Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
