Ahmedabad, March 28: A new bus port in Patan was inaugurated on Friday under a public-private partnership model. This facility is expected to handle around 850 bus arrivals and departures daily, serving over 20,000 passengers.
The inauguration was conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, in collaboration with the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) and Katira Construction (Patan) Private Limited. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sanghvi unveiled a plaque and announced the allocation of three new air-conditioned buses for the district.
Addressing the gathering, Sanghvi stated that this project reflects the vision of development outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized, “Continuous efforts are being made to provide facilities to every corner of the state. This new bus port in Patan is a living example of that thought.”
Operations at the facility are set to commence the following day, with a total of 850 buses expected to operate daily. Sanghvi reiterated the state government’s goal of providing transport services to 3 million passengers daily by 2027. After the inauguration, he visited the Kalika Mata Temple in the city to offer prayers.
Officials reported that the bus port, built over an area of approximately 15,974 square meters, was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹17 crores. The facility is equipped with modern amenities to enhance passenger comfort and safety.
Acting Minister Swaroopji Thakor described the inauguration as a significant achievement for the district. He remarked, “The new bus port is not just a building; it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Patan’s development. It will provide millions of passengers with a comfortable, safe, and convenient travel experience, contributing to the city’s identity.”
Thakor also stressed the need for public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and upkeep. The event also referenced Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled visit to North Gujarat on March 31, during which a 3D mapping show will be virtually inaugurated at the UNESCO-listed Rani Ki Vav.
Attendees included legislators Lovingji Thakor, Alpesh Thakor, Kirit Patel, and Balvantsinh Rajput, along with other officials and local residents.
