Ahmedabad, August 13: Over one hundred thousand citizens participated in the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ held in Ahmedabad on August 12. This procession, stretching from Raipur to Sarangpur, was organized as part of the celebrations for India’s independence, where participants waved the national flag and paid tribute to the armed forces.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi inaugurated the event by hoisting the national flag in Raipur. The procession was part of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, marking the celebration of independence and the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram.’
Originally scheduled for August 11, the event was postponed to August 12. Urban Development Minister Darshana Jardosh also joined the procession.
Speaking at the event, Sanghvi emphasized that from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and from villages to large cities, there is only one color of patriotism—the color of the tricolor. He acknowledged the soldiers who stand firm in extreme heat, heavy rain, and harsh cold to defend the nation.
He urged citizens to express gratitude towards soldiers and their families, calling for a salute to their courage and spreading the message of patriotism across the country with chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai.’
Sanghvi noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative has transformed into a nationwide movement, with participation from children to the elderly, and residents of both villages and cities carrying the national flag.
The Deputy CM highlighted the involvement of youth, women, and senior citizens in the Ahmedabad rally as a symbol of the city’s patriotic spirit. He also appealed to citizens to respect the national flag, ensuring it always flies high and is never allowed to touch the ground. After the rally, he advised participants to fold the flag properly and handle it with care.
The rally commenced from the Big Bazaar-Raipur area, passing through various parts of the old city and concluding at Sarangpur. The entire route was adorned with the colors of the tricolor, and 11 stages were set up at key locations like Raipur Chaurasta, Khadia Gate, and Sarangpur Chaurasta for welcoming participants.
Patriotic songs and cultural programs were held on these stages, featuring songs such as ‘Vande Mataram,’ ‘Saare Jahan Se Achha,’ and ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.’ During the procession, teachers from the Ahmedabad School Board carried a 300-foot-long national flag.
