Gandhinagar, March 7: Gujarat’s ‘181 Abhayam’ women helpline has marked its 12th anniversary, serving as a vital resource for women across the state. This helpline has provided assistance and protection to thousands facing issues such as domestic violence, harassment, cybercrime, and marital disputes.
Launched on March 8, 2015, the helpline has reached millions of women over the past 12 years. Official statistics indicate that more than 1,810,913 women have received guidance, advice, and support during this period.
In critical situations, the helpline teams have rescued 109,886 women, ensuring they reach safe shelter homes. Additionally, 229,660 cases have been resolved through on-site counseling.
Officials have stated that the ‘181 Abhayam’ helpline has become a robust safety net for women in Gujarat. Our teams have intervened in 360,964 cases, providing immediate assistance to women in crisis.
The helpline operates 24/7, staffed by female police constables and trained counselors to ensure prompt support for victims.
To enhance the service’s effectiveness, the state government has deployed 59 modern rescue vans equipped with GPS tracking systems, which serve as mobile safety centers. This initiative is considered innovative in the country.
The use of technology has further improved the helpline’s functionality. The 181 mobile app features a ‘panic button’ and ‘phone shaking’ options, allowing women to send their precise location to the helpline without making a call.
Officials noted that this combination of technology and trained personnel ensures that women can receive immediate help even in emergency or life-threatening situations.
The helpline also provides women with information about their legal rights, government schemes, and other support services, while maintaining complete confidentiality for those seeking help. Women from other states residing in Gujarat can also access this service for free.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, the state government has made this helpline a crucial pillar for women’s safety, empowering every woman in the state to feel secure and supported.
