Gandhinagar, May 20: The Gujarat Waqf Board has urged all ‘Mutawallis’ (administrators), trustees, waqf institutions, and stakeholders across the state to complete mandatory registration on the ‘Umeed’ (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development) portal by May 26. The board has warned that no further exemptions will be granted under the current legal framework.
To assist with the registration process, a dedicated helpline has been activated for technical and procedural support.
This appeal is part of a nationwide compliance campaign initiated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs to centralize and digitize waqf property records under the Umeed digital governance framework.
Launched on June 6 last year, the portal serves as a single national database for recording details of waqf properties, including ownership, income, documentation, and administrative records. Its aim is to enhance transparency, accountability, and legal security for waqf properties.
According to officials, the Umeed platform functions as an integrated system for the verification, geo-tagging, monitoring, and digital management of waqf properties. It seeks to replace fragmented record-keeping systems that currently exist at state and local levels.
The ministry has also introduced additional modules on the portal for survey and lease management tasks to strengthen property documentation and administrative oversight.
The Gujarat Waqf Board emphasized that this portal is not merely a registration facility but a structural reform in waqf administration. It is designed to ensure the long-term security of properties and to reduce disputes arising from incomplete or unverifiable records.
The board further stated that consolidating data on a single platform will enable more efficient administration and help eliminate irregularities in property management.
Under the framework of the Umeed Act, a specific deadline has been set for uploading existing waqf property details, and a national compliance timeline for digitizing records has already been established.
The board reiterated that institutions failing to complete registration within the stipulated period may face administrative and legal complications, and they will be fully responsible for any consequences arising from non-compliance.
Officials noted that a significant number of waqf institutions in the state have yet to complete registration, despite repeated advisories.
Therefore, the board has urged mutawallis, trustees, and administrators to ensure that all necessary documents are uploaded promptly and to avoid incomplete applications.
