Gandhinagar, August 19: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat, Gyanendra Singh Malik, has instructed senior police officials across the state to reduce the response time for the emergency service ‘112’. This initiative aims to ensure that citizens receive immediate assistance during emergencies.
Malik issued these directives during a review meeting conducted via video conferencing with police commissioners, range heads, and district police superintendents, focusing on the current law and order situation in the state.
The meeting took place from the police headquarters in Gandhinagar. Officials reviewed the operations of the ‘Emergency Response Support System 112’, emphasizing the importance of response times.
Malik urged officials to continuously monitor the system’s performance and take corrective measures when necessary. The meeting also highlighted the need to ensure adequate availability of police vehicles and drivers for emergency responses.
Senior officials were instructed to ensure that any malfunctioning vehicles are repaired promptly to avoid any impact on police response during emergencies.
The attendance of ‘112’ staff was also reviewed, with officials directed to ensure proper staffing levels. The meeting stressed the importance of coordinating with the control room when approving leave for ‘112’ personnel, to maintain the number of available staff and the capacity for emergency response.
Malik emphasized the need for police vehicles to reach distressed citizens as quickly as possible, aiming to minimize response times. He called for ongoing monitoring of operations and timely corrective actions to enhance emergency police assistance.
Gujarat is part of the central government’s nationwide integrated emergency response system, designed to provide assistance for emergencies related to police, fire, medical, and other services through a single number.
This system can receive distress notifications via voice calls, SMS, email, web requests, and SOS/panic alerts. Additionally, its control center can track emergency response vehicles in real-time and dispatch the nearest unit.
According to the official ‘112’ portal, this system is designed to improve decision-making processes and reduce response times, including the automatic location detection of callers in distress.
