Vote Counting Underway for DUSU Elections Amid Tight Security

New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Vote counting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections commenced on Saturday under stringent security measures, with results anticipated later in the day.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has fielded Yash Dubas for the president position and Ishu Maurya for vice president. Meanwhile, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena for president and Veer Chhatra for vice president.

According to data from 52 polling centers, voter turnout reached 40.46% during the voting held on Friday, marking the highest participation in the past three years. In comparison, last year’s turnout was 39.5%. To accommodate students with varying class schedules, the voting process was conducted in two phases. The first phase ran from 8:30 AM to 1 PM, while the second phase catered to evening class students from 3 PM to 7:30 PM.

Before the final results are announced, the ABVP has already secured key positions in several colleges during the DUSU elections. The organization achieved victories in all major positions at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Shri Aurobindo College (Morning), Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College, Bharti College, and Shivaji College. At Ramjas College, ABVP candidates won the president, secretary, central councilor, and internal complaints committee positions, further boosting their tally ahead of the university-level results.

Delhi University comprises 91 colleges across its North and South campuses. However, only 52 colleges and faculties participate directly in the DUSU electoral process. Notably, several prominent institutions, including St. Stephen’s College, Lady Shri Ram College, and Jesus and Mary College, do not take part in the DUSU elections.

The counting is taking place under tight security, with officials implementing measures to ensure the process remains calm and orderly until the final results are declared. In a related development, the Delhi High Court has prohibited victory processions following the DUSU election results, directing the Delhi police to ensure no such processions occur on the streets, in hostels, or within college campuses after the announcements.
