Cyclone Murasu Weakens into Depression, Winds Expected to Diminish
Cyclone Murasu has weakened to a depression, with winds expected to reduce as heavy rains continue in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : The severe cyclonic storm ‘Murasu’ has weakened and transformed into a deep depression, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. As of November 3 at 11:30 PM, the storm’s center was positioned over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjacent eastern Telangana.
The system was recorded approximately 40 kilometers south-southwest of Nandigama, 60 kilometers west of Vijayawada, 80 kilometers south of Khammam, and 150 kilometers south-southwest of Bhadrachalam. The meteorological department forecasts that the system is likely to weaken further as it moves northward, with expectations of it becoming a regular depression by the morning of November 4. Winds may reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts hitting up to 60 kilometers per hour.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on Wednesday. The impacts of Cyclone ‘Murasu’ have already been felt, with significant rainfall recorded in southern coastal Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Strong winds uprooted trees and power poles, while flooding in low-lying areas disrupted daily life. The affected districts, including Prakasam, Bapatla, Palnadu, Krishna, Eluru, and West Godavari, reported extensive damage to crops and interruptions in power supply.
In Bapatla district, coastal conditions were severe, with high waves pushing seawater nearly 50 meters inland at Sunilanka Beach. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the cyclone’s effects from the ‘Real-Time Governance Society’ (RTGS) center in the Secretariat. He gathered information from officials regarding rainfall and wind intensity across various regions.
Naidu emphasized the importance of keeping the public informed to save lives and noted that he had reached out to his counterparts in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for assistance in recovery efforts. He instructed officials to analyze incoming data and ensure that administrative systems function effectively to address the situation.
