Mumbai, July 1: The book titled ‘Climate Change: A Web’ authored by former Maharashtra Health Minister Dr. Deepak Sawant was launched on Wednesday at Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) in Mumbai. The launch was officiated by Maharashtra Governor Jagdish Mukhi in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
During the event, Dr. Deepak Sawant stated that the book is a culmination of extensive analysis of national and international research articles and various studies on global climate change. He emphasized that the book aims to raise awareness about the escalating impacts of climate change and provide scientific information on this critical issue.
The book includes chapters addressing the complexities of climate change, its relationship with soil, deadly diseases, food security, malnutrition, and more.
Guests at the event described the book as a significant effort to enhance public awareness on serious global issues like climate change. They expressed hope that it would be beneficial for the general public, students, researchers, and policymakers.
Dr. Sawant remarked that the warnings issued 16 years ago are now proving to be true. In 2010, discussions about the dangerous effects of global warming were new to many, but the ongoing changes in temperature are now clearly impacting daily life. Rising illnesses, unseasonal rains, extreme heat, changing weather patterns, and farmer suicides reflect the reality of those warnings.
He further noted that witnessing the gradual sinking of Joshimath highlighted humanity’s helplessness in the face of this crisis. Additionally, numerous significant threats related to climate change have emerged. He stressed that merely posting on social media will not resolve this crisis, which motivated him to write this important book.
Dr. Sawant explained that the book also explores potential solutions to escape this major crisis and how millet and artificial intelligence (AI) can assist in addressing these challenges. It aims to answer the questions of how individuals can play a role in combating this crisis.
