New Delhi, December 6: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has set maximum fare limits for domestic flights and implemented them with immediate effect. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced this decision following complaints of sudden fare hikes after IndiGo flight cancellations.

The government order stated that unexpected increases in airfares were recorded on several routes following disruptions and large-scale flight cancellations by certain airlines. Taking this matter seriously, the central government has set maximum fare limits for domestic flights to prevent excessive fare collection during travel.

The government explained that flight cancellations reduced capacity, leading to abnormally high fares in some sectors. This decision has been taken in the interest of passengers.

According to the new decision, maximum fares will be Rs 7,500 for distances up to 500 kilometres, Rs 12,000 for 500-1000 kilometres, Rs 15,000 for 1000-1500 kilometres, and Rs 18,000 for distances exceeding 1500 kilometres. These rates exclude UDF, PSF, and taxes.

Business class services and flights under the UDAN scheme (RCS-UDAN) will not be affected by these limits.

The government has stated that these fare limits will remain in effect until fare stability returns or until further government review. These limits apply to all types of bookings, whether tickets are purchased from airline websites or online travel agents.

Airlines have been directed to ensure seat availability across all fare categories and consider adding additional capacity where needed to meet rising demand. They have been asked to avoid sudden or unnecessary price increases on affected sectors.

Airlines must provide maximum assistance to passengers and offer alternative flight options wherever possible. The central government’s order has been implemented with immediate effect. These directives have been issued after approval from competent authorities.
