New Delhi, July 30: The ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to witness more disruptions on its ninth day. The Congress party is targeting the government for allegedly preventing Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi from speaking in the Lok Sabha. In response, Congress MPs will stage a protest at the Parliament’s Makara Gate before the proceedings begin.
According to reports, all Congress MPs will gather at Makara Gate at 10:30 AM to raise the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s speech. Prior to this, a meeting of the floor leaders of the ‘India’ bloc has been scheduled for 10 AM.
On Wednesday, chaos erupted during Rahul Gandhi’s address in Parliament. He raised concerns about police action against students during a recent march while discussing the Anti-Paper Leak Bill. During his speech, he used terms like ‘idiot’ and ‘blind followers,’ which drew objections from the ruling party. He later accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of firing on students.
In response, Kiren Rijiju demanded that Rahul Gandhi either apologize or present evidence for his claims. The uproar continued, leading to the suspension of the House proceedings for the day.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Anti-Paper Leak Bill (Amendment Bill, 2026) is set to be presented in the Rajya Sabha, with discussions expected to commence around 2 PM.
Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted a notice for a suspension of business in the Lok Sabha to discuss the framework of a new anti-defection law. He urged the government to suspend today’s proceedings and allow a comprehensive discussion on this urgent matter. He stated, “I propose that this House suspend Question Hour, Zero Hour, and all other listed business to discuss the framework of a new anti-defection law.”
