New Delhi, May 9: The government announced that over 9.7 million domestic LPG cylinders were delivered in the last two days, compared to approximately 8.77 million bookings. Online bookings for cooking gas have surged to 99 percent.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that the supply of domestic LPG is fully normal. About 95 percent of deliveries are being made based on authentication codes sent to consumers’ registered mobile numbers, aimed at preventing gas diversion at the distributor level. Despite supply challenges due to the crisis in West Asia, no retail gas agency has reported a shortage.
In the past two days, around 111,000 small 5-kilogram LPG cylinders were also sold. Since April 3, public sector oil companies have organized over 10,700 awareness camps, educating migrant workers in urban areas about the use of smaller cylinders.
Additionally, more than 15,493 metric tons of commercial LPG were sold in the last two days, equivalent to about 815,000 cylinders of 19 kilograms each.
A three-member committee of executive directors from IOC, HPCL, and BPCL is collaborating with state governments and industry organizations to plan commercial LPG sales across states and union territories.
Gas supply has commenced for approximately 650,000 PNG connections, with infrastructure prepared for an additional 266,000 connections. This brings the total number of PNG connections to 916,000, while 708,000 new customers have registered for new connections.
The statement further mentioned ongoing actions nationwide to prevent LPG hoarding and black marketing. Over 2,000 raids were conducted across the country on Thursday.
Public sector oil companies have intensified surprise inspection campaigns. So far, 378 LPG distributors have been fined, and 76 gas agencies have been suspended as of Thursday.
The ministry noted that despite rising crude oil prices in the international market, retail prices of petrol and diesel remain stable. There is sufficient stock of both fuels available at Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL petrol pumps across the country.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas also assured that necessary measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG, even with the closure of the Hormuz Strait.
According to the government, all refineries are operating at high capacity and have adequate crude oil reserves. Local LPG production at refineries has also been increased to meet domestic needs.
The government has urged people not to panic-buy petrol, diesel, and LPG. It advised avoiding rumors and relying only on official sources for accurate information. LPG consumers are encouraged to book through digital platforms and avoid crowding at gas agencies.
