
Beijing, June 8: Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), hosted a grand welcome ceremony for Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China, at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang.
Large portraits of the two leaders adorned the center of Kim Il Sung Square, flanked by slogans in both Chinese and Korean proclaiming, “Long live DPRK-China friendship” and “Eternal unity of DPRK-China friendship.” Flags from both nations waved in the air as an excited crowd gathered to greet their guests.
Upon the arrival of Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, a mounted honor guard formed to welcome them, accompanied by a military band playing celebratory tunes. Kim Jong Un and his wife, Ri Sol Ju, greeted them at the square. The two leaders ascended the salute platform together, where the military band played the national anthems of both China and the DPRK, followed by a 21-gun salute.
Xi Jinping inspected the DPRK military contingent alongside Kim Jong Un, as soldiers chanted in Korean, “Long live Comrade Xi Jinping’s health.” Following this, they jointly observed a parade.
Citizens and children from various regions of Pyongyang, dressed in festive attire, welcomed the Chinese guests while waving flags, flowers, and balloons, chanting slogans celebrating China-DPRK friendship. As they walked down the red carpet, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un waved to the crowd and children.
During this time, local citizens spontaneously lined the streets to welcome Xi Jinping.
Notable attendees at the event included Choi Chi and Wang Yi.
