Nagpur, February 13: Congress leader Nana Patole has voiced his support for opposition leader Rahul Gandhi‘s statements regarding the India-US trade deal. He emphasized that the government should respond to the questions raised by Gandhi concerning the trade agreement.
In a conversation in Nagpur, Patole stated that Gandhi is correct in asserting that the US will dictate terms to India regarding trade. He criticized Prime Minister Modi’s deal with the US, claiming it will adversely affect farmers. “The government must provide clear answers. The country’s interests should come first,” he said.
Patole also commented on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks, asserting that mere accusations will not resolve issues. He reminded that Congress governed the country for 60 years, while the BJP has been in power for 12 years and should be held accountable.
Regarding the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, Patole noted that during Congress’s tenure, they had effectively shown Bangladesh and Pakistan their place. He mentioned that the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh was hosted in India and criticized the BJP for opposing Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement with Bangladeshi players. “Bangladesh should focus on its own matters,” he added.
On the controversy surrounding the unpublished book by Manoj Mukund Naravane, Patole stated that Naravane had shared his insights about the situation during his tenure. He expressed concern over China’s encroachment on Indian borders and criticized the notion that the US would dictate where India should purchase oil.
Addressing the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Patole argued that the Speaker should listen to both the ruling and opposition parties. He highlighted that while Gandhi raises questions in the national interest, Birla often makes unilateral decisions that silence him. “Rules are enforced selectively, as BJP MPs freely comment on Nehru based on books without facing any restrictions from Birla. I believe a no-confidence motion should be brought to remove him from his position,” he concluded.
