New Delhi, July 1: The central government has taken a significant step towards economically empowering rural women. The new digital platform ‘SHE-Leaps’ (Self-Help Entrepreneur-Livelihoods and Enterprise Application for Prosperity and Sustainability) will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of creating 60 million ‘Lakshmi Didis’ across the country. This information was released in an official fact sheet on Wednesday.
‘SHE-Leaps’ is designed to empower women linked to self-help groups (SHGs) in rural India. It will enable women to start their enterprises, grow them, and digitally monitor their progress. Additionally, the platform will strengthen livelihoods, enterprise development, and financial inclusion for women.
According to the government, this platform will promote both agricultural and non-agricultural rural enterprises. Its aim is to build a strong and sustainable economy in villages.
The fact sheet indicates that ‘SHE-Leaps’ will give new momentum to the ‘Lakshmi Didi’ mission. Through this initiative, women’s income will increase, and their enterprises will be subject to end-to-end digital tracking. The government plans to allocate ₹10 lakh crore over the next five years to benefit women under the ‘Lakshmi Didi’ scheme. Officials believe that the ‘SHE-Leaps’ mobile app will play a vital role in the large-scale expansion of women’s enterprises.
The digital platform was launched on June 29 during the National Rural Development Conference held in New Delhi. The main objective of the conference was to strategize for the vision of ‘Developed Villages, Developed India.’
The government states that ‘SHE-Leaps’ will be implemented across 34 states and union territories in the country. It will assist the state rural livelihood missions in these regions.
This platform will provide real-time data related to rural enterprises, enhancing the understanding of economic activities in villages. It will also strengthen monitoring at various levels and aid in formulating better policies from local to national levels.
The government asserts that ‘SHE-Leaps,’ which integrates digital technology, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment, is a significant initiative towards digital transformation in rural India. It will not only increase women’s economic participation but also lay a strong foundation for inclusive and sustainable rural development while expanding the ‘Lakshmi Didi’ mission nationwide.
