New Delhi, July 2: Maruti Suzuki India launched its state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing unit in IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana, on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi dedicated the plant to the nation via video conferencing during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum held in the national capital.

Spanning approximately 800 acres, this integrated manufacturing complex is developed alongside a modern supplier park. Once fully operational, it will rank among the largest vehicle manufacturing facilities globally.

Production has commenced at the plant, which currently has an annual capacity of 500,000 vehicles. The next phase will increase this capacity to 1 million vehicles per year. The company plans to invest a total of ₹35,000 crore in this project, which is expected to create direct employment for over 21,000 people upon completion.

The Kharkhoda plant is developed under Suzuki’s ‘Smart Factory’ concept, utilizing Industry 5.0 technologies aimed at enhancing production quality, safety, and productivity. Sustainable technologies, including solar energy, biogas, battery energy storage systems, and green energy, are also integrated into the facility. Its entire power requirement will be met through renewable energy sources.

This inauguration marks a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s journey of over four decades in India. It also strengthens the strategic economic partnership between India and Japan.

Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will play a crucial role in Maruti Suzuki’s goal of achieving an annual production capacity of 4 million vehicles.

Toshihiro Suzuki, highlighting the project’s historical significance for the Suzuki Group, expressed pride that the inauguration was conducted by Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi. He noted that the plant, initially capable of producing 500,000 vehicles, will eventually reach a capacity of 1 million vehicles annually, positioning it among the world’s largest automobile manufacturing units.

He described the project as a symbol of the India-Japan partnership and the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He credited the favorable policy environment created by Prime Minister Modi’s government for Suzuki’s accelerated investment, job creation, exports, and technological advancement in India.

Emphasizing India’s growing importance, Toshihiro Suzuki mentioned that the group’s first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, is being manufactured specifically at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, from where this electric SUV will be exported to 100 countries worldwide.
