Government Doubles Supply of LPG Cylinders for Migrant Workers

New Delhi, April 7: In a significant move to support migrant workers, the central government has decided to double the daily supply of 5-kilogram free trade LPG (FTL) cylinders across states. This initiative aims to provide relief to those who rely on these essential resources.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Petroleum, the increased supply will be based on the average daily distribution previously provided to migrant workers. This means that the supply will now be adjusted to meet the existing demand effectively.

Notably, this new arrangement surpasses the previously set limit of 20 percent established in March. Consequently, a greater number of cylinders will now reach migrant workers than before.

The government clarified that the additional 5-kilogram FTL cylinders will be allocated to state governments and their food and civil supplies departments. Distribution will be exclusively for migrant workers, with support from oil marketing companies.

Earlier, the government emphasized that, amid current global conditions, every effort is being made to ensure the adequate availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Citizens were urged not to panic-buy and to rely solely on official information.

Consumers are encouraged to use digital platforms for LPG bookings and to avoid unnecessary visits to distributors. The government has prioritized the supply of domestic LPG and piped natural gas (PNG), particularly for essential sectors like hospitals and educational institutions.

Additionally, measures such as increasing refinery production and extending booking intervals to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions have been implemented. Alternative fuels like kerosene and coal are also being made available to reduce demand.

According to government reports, there have been no disruptions in LPG supply for migrant workers. Recent data indicates that approximately 5.1 million domestic LPG cylinders have been distributed. Online bookings have reached up to 95 percent, and improvements in the delivery authentication system have helped curb discrepancies.
