Government Doubles Supply of 5 kg LPG Cylinders for Migrant Workers

New Delhi, April 7: The central government announced on Tuesday that it has doubled the daily supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders allocated for migrant workers across all states.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated, “Based on the average daily supply provided to migrant workers during March 2-3, 2026, the supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders is being doubled. These cylinders will be available to state governments and will be supplied exclusively to migrant workers within their respective states with the assistance of public sector oil marketing companies.”

Since March 23, approximately 780,000 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold. On Monday alone, over 106,000 5 kg cylinders were sold nationwide, compared to an average of 77,000 cylinders sold daily in February.

In the past four days, public sector oil companies have also organized around 1,300 awareness camps for 5 kg cylinders, resulting in the sale of over 10,000 cylinders.

The statement noted that the overall supply of LPG is being affected by the current geopolitical situation; however, the supply of domestic LPG cylinders remains stable, with no reports of shortages from distributors.

The share of online bookings for total LPG has increased to about 96%, while delivery authentication code (DAC) based deliveries have risen to nearly 90% to prevent diversion.

Total commercial LPG allocations have been raised to approximately 70% of pre-crisis levels, including a 10% form-linked allocation.

Since March 14, around 86,439 metric tons of commercial LPG (equivalent to over 4.55 million 19 kg cylinders) have been sold, with more than 340,000 19 kg cylinders sold on Monday.

A three-member committee of executive directors from Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL is coordinating with state officials and industry bodies to plan commercial LPG distribution.

The statement emphasized that enforcement actions against LPG hoarding and black marketing are ongoing nationwide, with over 4,300 raids conducted on Monday, resulting in the seizure of more than 1,200 cylinders.

States have been advised to facilitate new PNG connections for both domestic and commercial consumers.

All refineries are operating at full capacity, and there is a sufficient stock of crude oil. The country also has ample stocks of petrol and diesel. The statement confirmed that LPG production has been increased to meet domestic consumption needs.

Additionally, the government has advised the public to be cautious of rumors and to rely solely on official sources for accurate information.
