New Delhi, August 15: On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, numerous global leaders extended their greetings to the citizens of India. They praised the country’s democratic journey, strong partnerships, and its growing global role in promoting regional cooperation.
Former President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, also conveyed his Independence Day wishes to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India. He noted that India’s journey since gaining independence in 1947 has inspired developing nations like the Maldives to advance towards democracy.
Solih expressed hope for the continuous strengthening of friendship and cooperation between India and the Maldives.
Mohamed Nazim, President of the Maldives National Party (MNP), also sent his wishes to India, describing it as a close friend and reliable partner. He congratulated Prime Minister Modi and all Indians, wishing for India’s prosperity.
This year’s Independence Day celebrations notably mark the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram.’ The contributions, aspirations, and energy of the youth in building a developed India by 2047 are also being highlighted.
Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Shering Tobgay, extended heartfelt wishes on Facebook to his “big brother” PM Modi and the Indian people. He expressed hope for the strengthening of friendship and relations between the two countries.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement saying, “On behalf of the United States, I extend warm wishes to the people of India on their Independence Day. Thanks to the personal relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, U.S.-India relations are continuously growing stronger than ever. Our cooperation spans defense, energy security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, space collaboration, and trade, making both our countries and the broader Indian Ocean region safer, stronger, and more prosperous. The deep ties of friendship and family between our peoples lay the foundation for a partnership that is innovative, resilient, and future-oriented. The United States looks forward to the future we will build together.”
Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam also congratulated India, highlighting the strong and future-oriented strategic partnership between India and Singapore. He emphasized that close people-to-people connections are a vital cornerstone of this relationship.
He noted that cooperation between the two countries is expanding into new areas such as skill development, digitalization, sustainable development, and advanced manufacturing. He expressed confidence that both nations would continue to explore new opportunities for collaboration in the interest of their peoples.
Shanmugaratnam stated that both Singapore and India share a common interest in building a peaceful, open, and interconnected region. He mentioned that Singapore, as one of ASEAN’s oldest dialogue partners, will continue to work with India to strengthen regional integration and resilience in areas such as trade, digital economy, energy security, and energy transition.
