Mumbai, March 3: As tensions rise between countries like Iran, Israel, and the United States, reactions from the Indian entertainment industry are beginning to emerge. Veteran actor Gajendra Chauhan shared his insights on the current international situation during a recent conversation. Known for his role as Yudhishthir in the popular television series ‘Mahabharat’, Chauhan emphasized that any form of war affects the entire world, including the film industry.
In the discussion, Gajendra Chauhan stated, “War is always destructive. Its impact is not limited to the countries directly involved but also extends to neighboring regions and trade partner nations.”
He highlighted the implications for countries like the United Arab Emirates, saying, “Many Bollywood artists, singers, and production houses frequently travel to the Middle East for shooting, stage shows, and concerts. When military tensions rise, attacks occur, or instability spreads in the region, entertainment events are often the first to be canceled or postponed. This leads to financial losses for artists and technical teams.”
He further explained, “War directly impacts the economy. As tensions escalate, oil prices soar, leading to inflation. Film production is an expensive endeavor that requires travel, equipment, locations, and large teams. When fuel prices rise, transportation costs increase, raising the overall production budget. In emergencies, theaters may temporarily close, ticket prices may rise, and international shows can be canceled. While major stars might withstand this economic shock, smaller artists, technicians, and daily wage workers suffer the most.”
Gajendra Chauhan remarked, “A peaceful environment fosters creativity. When society is safe and stable, art and culture thrive. However, in times of war, fear and insecurity take hold, adversely affecting creative endeavors. Reports of flight cancellations due to tensions in the Middle East are emerging. This not only affects the aviation sector but also poses challenges for traveling artists and film units. Delays, canceled events, and uncertainty increase mental stress.”
Discussing collaboration between Hollywood and Bollywood, as well as shooting in foreign locations and international projects, he noted, “Economic and political stability are interconnected. A global economic shock impacts creative industries as well. The film industry has faced many tough times before, whether due to economic downturns or pandemics. Each time, the industry has adapted in new ways. OTT platforms, low-budget local films, and fresh creative ideas may pave the way forward. This industry has the resilience and creativity to overcome every crisis.”
