Jaipur, April 2: Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and senior Congress leader Ashok Gahlot raised serious concerns on Thursday regarding the neglect of Gandhi Vatika by the state government. He accused the BJP government of overlooking this significant cultural site, which was developed during the previous Congress administration.
Gahlot, continuing his critique of the state government through the digital series ‘Intzar Shastra,’ stated that the BJP’s intentions towards Gandhi Vatika are unclear. Although the BJP opened the museum under public pressure, it is evident that they are now ignoring it.
He questioned whether the BJP is so afraid of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth and non-violence that they do not want to share them with the younger generation. Gahlot suggested that educational trips to the site should be made mandatory for schools and colleges, and the museum should be promoted through advertisements and other media channels. He asserted that any attempt to suppress Gandhi’s ideals will ultimately fail.
In his video, Gahlot mentioned that the budget for 2021-22 included a decision to establish two institutions in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary: the Gandhi Vatika Museum in Central Park and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Social Sciences.
He explained that the Gandhi Vatika Museum is designed to present Gandhi’s thoughts and philosophy in a modern style, showcasing the principles of truth, non-violence, and the freedom struggle.
Constructed over an area of 14,500 square meters at a cost of ₹850 million, Gahlot claimed this museum is one of the most attractive and modern in the country. He accused the BJP government of keeping it closed for nearly a year after coming to power, only reopening it in 2024 following protests.
Gahlot emphasized that while the museum is a vital cultural asset, there is still significant room for improvement in its management and maintenance.
