G7 Strengthens Support for Ukraine with €90 Billion Loan from EU

Paris, June 16: Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced that conditions are shifting in favor of Ukraine in 2026. She revealed the release of the first tranche of a €90 billion loan from the European Union for Ukraine.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, von der Leyen stated, “The situation is looking more favorable for Ukraine. The circumstances in 2026 are significantly different from those in 2025. Ukraine is bravely holding the front lines, while Russia’s fatigue is becoming increasingly evident.”

President Ursula emphasized the need to strengthen support for Ukraine during these challenging times. The first installment of the EU’s €90 billion loan is now being issued. Additionally, a special winter aid package will be provided to assist Ukraine by the end of the year. All G7 nations stand united in support of a strong, independent, and sovereign Ukraine.

During the G7 summit in France, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also highlighted the importance of international cooperation regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. He appreciated the support from G7 leaders and their suggestions for peace.

Zelensky stated, “Our priorities are crystal clear, such as increasing the number of air defense missiles and providing licenses for their production, preparing a winter aid package, and intensifying pressure on Russia. It is crucial that the United States is ready to cooperate and support in all these areas.”

He added, “The most important thing is that the issues discussed must be implemented. Russia needs to understand that this war can never return to normalcy. I thank everyone who is helping in this effort.”

At the G7 summit, U.S. President Donald Trump also urged for an end to the war through negotiations, stating, “What is happening there is madness. Russia should reach an agreement.”
