From Street Vendor to Cricket Star: Arjun Rajput Selected for Indias U-19 Team

Jalandhar, June 12: Dreams know no boundaries when fueled by determination and passion. This is exemplified by Arjun Rajput, son of a street vendor selling chole kulche in Jalandhar. Arjun has been selected for the Indian Under-19 cricket team.

On July 4, when the team departs for Sri Lanka, this young talent will don the blue jersey and represent the nation. His family is hopeful that he will score plenty of runs and take wickets for Team India.

Arjun is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm off-spinner. He began his cricket journey at the Harbhajan Singh Cricket Academy. Despite limited resources, he never gave up. His coach, Vikram Sidhu, has been a constant source of support, strengthening his resolve.

After his selection for the national team, Arjun expressed his joy in a media interaction. “I started playing cricket at the age of 8 or 9. I am thrilled to reach this milestone. Our initial matches will be in Sri Lanka. We will represent the country and strive to perform well, win all matches, and bring the trophy home,” he said. He credited his parents and family for their unwavering support, especially during tough times.

Arjun shared that his father, Hoti Ram, sells chole kulche outside DAV College. “He has worked hard to fulfill my dreams. Now, I want to make his dreams come true. I tell him to stop selling kulche; our situation has changed,” he said.

Hoti Ram, emotionally, shared that he has been selling kulche for many years. Arjun has been playing cricket since he was five or six years old and has worked tirelessly. He received coaching at the Harbhajan Singh Academy. Upon learning of his selection for the U-19 team, he felt immense joy.

Arjun’s mother, Nanni Devi, expressed her happiness, saying, “I just received the news this morning. It’s a moment of great joy.” His sister, Kiran Rajput, added, “My brother has been working hard for a long time, and the whole family has supported him. Now, his hard work has paid off, and he will play for Team India. Seeing him in the blue jersey is a dream come true.”
