Four Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Guwahati

Guwahati, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Assam police have detained four individuals in Guwahati on suspicion of being Bangladeshi nationals residing without valid documentation. Authorities reported this development on October 8.

The suspects were identified during a verification drive in the Dispur area. They were taken into custody for questioning, where officials are examining their identities, citizenship, and documentation. Investigators are also looking into the circumstances that led to their presence in Guwahati.

This latest arrest follows a series of operations across various parts of Guwahati, where several individuals were apprehended under similar suspicions. In a recent operation, five suspected Bangladeshi nationals traveling on the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express were intercepted at the Paltan Bazar railway station.

Subsequently, police traced this group to a hotel named “Vintage Home,” where they had been staying. The operation resulted in the arrest of the hotel owner, two managers, and another individual accused of facilitating the stay of these suspected foreign nationals.

In another verification initiative, 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were detained from the Shanti Hotel. Police stated that they have initiated procedures to deport these individuals under the Immigrants Act.

The recent actions in Dispur highlight Guwahati police’s ongoing efforts to identify and verify foreign nationals living in the city without valid travel or identification documents. Authorities are also investigating potential connections between those detained and networks involved in facilitating illegal immigration.

Officials indicated that the nationality and legal status of the four detained individuals will be clarified after a thorough examination of their documents and other available records. Further updates are anticipated.
