Garhwa, Jharkhand witnessed a tragic road accident on Sunday night when a Scorpio vehicle carrying four people was struck by a speeding unidentified truck near Belchampa village in Garhwa Sadar police station area.
The collision was so severe that the Scorpio lost control and crashed into a nearby house. All four occupants of the Scorpio died on the spot, while the residents inside the house narrowly escaped harm.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Scorpio was moving at a very high speed, estimated to be over 100 kilometres per hour. The impact from the truck caused the vehicle to veer off and smash into the house, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle and panic at the scene. Police arrived promptly to secure the area and took the deceased to Garhwa Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
According to police, the four victims were relatives returning home after attending a family event in Bilaspur village near the Uttar Pradesh border. They hailed from Bhandar village in Vishrampur police station and Pandu police station areas of Palamu district. The accident occurred as they approached Belchampa village.
Relatives conveyed that the Scorpio was hit from behind by the speeding truck, whose driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police are actively investigating the incident and searching for the unknown truck and its driver.
Expressing grief over the incident, former legislator and BJP leader Ramchandra Chandravanshi described the accident as deeply saddening and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. There is a somber mood in the locality following the tragedy.
