Ottawa, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The world-renowned Kullu Dussehra festival was celebrated at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, showcasing the rich cultural heritage, spiritual traditions, and folk art of Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Sukhu addressed the event virtually, praising the Himachali Diaspora Global Association (HPGA) for promoting the state’s cultural traditions on an international platform.

In his video message, Sukhu highlighted the enthusiasm with which Indian expatriates celebrate festivals and traditions around the globe. He emphasized that this reflects the enduring values of Indian civilization and the unity in diversity. Describing Dussehra as a symbol of the triumph of good over evil, Sukhu conveyed that the festival encourages standing up fearlessly for what is right.

He asserted that no matter how powerful evil may seem, ultimately, righteousness prevails.

The event was hosted by MP Marie-France Lalonde of Orléans and was organized with the enthusiastic support of over 35 India-Canada organizations through the HPGA. Members of the Indian expatriate community, particularly those from Himachal Pradesh, along with community leaders, culture enthusiasts, and distinguished guests, gathered to celebrate.

Sukhu noted that hosting such a ceremony at one of Canada’s most prestigious national sites reflects Himachal Pradesh’s growing international presence and recognition of its people’s skills, talent, and leadership. He further mentioned that initiatives like this provide significant opportunities to showcase the state’s rich traditions, cultural diversity, and spiritual heritage on a global stage.

A highlight of the ceremony included traditional Himachali folk dances, such as Nati and Jhamkara, along with a lively performance of Ram Leela. These cultural presentations underscored the efforts of the India-Canada community to preserve and promote Indian traditions for future generations.

Guests also enjoyed a taste of Himachal Pradesh’s culinary delights, featuring traditional dishes, including the famous Dham of the state.

The Chief Minister commended the HPGA for its efforts to unite Himachalis abroad, promote the state’s cultural heritage and tourism potential, and strengthen meaningful ties between the global Himachali community and Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney extended heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Kullu Dussehra, acknowledging the valuable contributions of Indo-Canadian people to Canada’s multicultural society and the importance of cultural diversity and community engagement.

The board of directors of HPGA, including Bhagya Chander, Arun Chauhan, Vivek Nazer, Sanjeev Thakur, Ashu Kalia, and Poonam Guleria, reiterated their commitment to promoting Himachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage, strengthening relationships among Himachalis worldwide, and showcasing the state’s traditions, values, and natural beauty on an international level.

This celebration highlighted the role of Indian expatriates in preserving cultural identity beyond national borders and strengthening ties between India and Canada. By encapsulating the spirit of Kullu Dussehra at the Parliament building, the event provided an international platform for Himachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage and further solidified the unbreakable bond between the state and its expatriates.
