Former Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora to Appear in Court Amid ED Investigation

Chandigarh, May 18: Former Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora, arrested in connection with an alleged ₹150 crore fraud, is set to appear in court today. He has been in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the past eight days.

Arora’s ED remand concludes today. Following his arrest, he was remanded to custody by a Gurugram court until May 16. The ED will present him in a Gurugram court this afternoon.

Additionally, the ED has summoned four individuals linked to Arora for questioning at its Delhi office. Officials have been instructed to bring relevant records and documents when they appear before the agency.

The individuals called in include Vasant Garg (IAS), Harsharan Kaur Trehan (Director, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited), Hemant Sood, and Chandrashekhar. It is alleged that Sood and Chandrashekhar are bookies and close associates of Arora. On Sunday, the ED also interrogated Arora’s son, Kavya Arora, regarding the case.

Sanjeev Arora was arrested on May 9 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002 at his government residence. This arrest is part of a money laundering investigation linked to the conversion of industrial land for residential projects. At the time of the raids, he was serving as a Rajya Sabha MP. The searches conducted on May 9 included his government residence allocated during his tenure as a cabinet minister in Chandigarh and the Delhi-NCR region.
