Srinagar, August 10: A court in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, sentenced a former militant to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 in a murder case on Monday.
The Srinagar police announced that the individual was convicted in a murder case registered at the Maisuma police station in 2020.
According to the statement, the court found Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar guilty of murdering Abdul Gani Dar, the son of Mohammad Abdullah, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The convict, a former militant and one of the founding members of the ‘Tehrik-ul-Mujahideen’ organization, was involved in various violent activities, including grenade attacks, assaults on security checkpoints, weapon thefts, and targeted killings of civilians and security personnel.
Throughout the 2000s, he provided logistical support to other terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), aiding in strengthening their networks.
His arrest and subsequent sentencing resulted from a thorough investigation by the Srinagar police and a robust presentation of evidence in court.
This case underscores that a person’s past involvement in militancy does not exempt them from the law. It highlights the commitment to ensuring that due legal processes are followed, regardless of the accused’s background in serious criminal matters.
