Gadchiroli, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant cultural event held in Delhi, participants from Gadchiroli district showcased their tribal heritage through traditional dance. The event took place during the 9th North-East Student Festival on September 4 and 5, where 18 individuals, including former Maoists, proudly represented Maharashtra.
The initiative is part of the ‘Project Udaan’ launched by the Gadchiroli police to encourage local youth and provide them with a platform to display their talents. The festival allowed these young individuals to present the rich traditions, art, and nature-centric lifestyle of Gadchiroli on a national stage.
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh, four former Maoists and 14 members of the Anup Dance Group participated in the festival. They performed the enchanting Rela dance, a unique cultural emblem of Gadchiroli, accompanied by traditional musical instruments.
The performance received enthusiastic responses from the audience, highlighting the message of peace, unity, brotherhood, and social harmony through the Rela dance. This event marked a pivotal moment for the former Maoists who have renounced violence and embraced a path toward rehabilitation.
The Gadchiroli police are actively working to reintegrate these former Maoists into society through education, skill development, employment opportunities, and cultural activities. Their participation at the festival not only boosted their confidence but also provided them with a platform to showcase their hidden talents and gain respect within the community.
The efforts to ensure the participation of these individuals were led by the civil action branch, with Police Sub-Inspector Chandrakant Shelke and his team working tirelessly to make this opportunity a reality. The involvement of former Maoists in such cultural events signifies a hopeful step towards their mainstream acceptance and a brighter future.
