
New Delhi, May 7: Former cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill has passed away at the age of 36 in Chandigarh. His death has sent shockwaves through the domestic cricket community. Gill was known for his skills as a medium pacer.
He shared the dressing room with several prominent Indian cricketers and was regarded as a dedicated and humble player in Punjab cricket.
During his career, Gill played six first-class matches representing Punjab and was part of the Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League. Even after retiring from professional play, he remained involved in cricket, serving as a member of the Punjab senior selection committee.
The Punjab Cricket Association released an official statement expressing sorrow over his passing and commemorating his extensive contributions to Punjab cricket.
The association noted that Gill served Punjab cricket with “dedication and passion,” representing India Under-19, the Punjab team, and Kings XI Punjab.
They extended condolences to his family and loved ones, wishing them strength during this difficult time. Reports indicate that his last rites will be conducted at the Manimajra crematorium in Chandigarh.
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to his former teammate and friend. Yuvraj shared an emotional message on social media, describing Gill as a “calm and hardworking cricketer” who had a deep love for the game.
He reminisced about sharing the dressing room with Gill early in his cricket career, stating that those memories would always remain with him. Yuvraj expressed his condolences to Gill’s family and prayed for the peace of his soul.
