Bhivandi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : A significant fire broke out early Wednesday in the parking area of an apartment complex in Bhivandi, Maharashtra, causing widespread panic among residents. The incident occurred in the Khandupada neighborhood, where two-wheelers parked in the Umar Apartment’s lot caught fire.
Residents of the 25 flats were fast asleep when the blaze ignited. Many were forced to flee to the rooftop to escape the flames and smoke.
The fire completely consumed 14 two-wheelers parked in the area. Some elderly residents and children experienced breathing difficulties and nausea due to the smoke and were subsequently admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Fortunately, there have been no official reports of serious injuries.
Witnesses described the intensity of the flames, which left one section of the building charred while another part retained its original paint. Local resident Abdul Sheikh recounted waking up around 4 a.m. to a commotion. Upon opening his door, he found the hallway filled with smoke. He quickly took his children to the roof after being advised to do so, as the ground floor was engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the Bhivandi Fire Department arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze. The Shantinagar police also responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. While a short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire, the exact reason remains unclear.
