Ranchi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Residents in Ranchi took to the streets for the second consecutive day on September 16, 2026, to protest against a demolition drive along the HEC bypass road. A large crowd gathered near DPS Chowk, blocking the main route and causing significant traffic disruptions. Tensions escalated between protesters and police, leading law enforcement to use minimal force to manage the situation.
The demolition efforts, which began on Tuesday, involved the Ranchi district administration and municipal corporation, supported by a heavy police presence and machinery. Officials aimed to remove what they described as illegal constructions on government and railway land. However, as the team commenced the demolition of several structures, local residents, particularly women, voiced their opposition. They argued that they had lived in the area for years and that the actions jeopardized their families’ housing.
Protesters claimed they were not given enough time to retrieve their belongings before the demolitions began. Some women noted that the actions occurred shortly after the Haritalika Teej festival, adding to their distress.
