New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Foreign Ministry has characterized the ongoing controversy surrounding the Eiffel Tower as a bilateral issue. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified India’s position during a briefing on Tuesday. The matter stems from a recent visit by a delegation from the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) to Paris.
Reports surfaced that female employees at the Eiffel Tower were instructed to keep their distance during the BAPS delegation’s visit. In response, Jaiswal stated, “We are aware of the temple inauguration by BAPS in the Paris area. As for this specific matter related to the tower, it is entirely a subject between the concerned parties.”
This comment followed allegations that during the delegation’s visit, female staff members were asked to vacate certain areas of the tower. On the same day, BAPS issued a clarification regarding the incident. The organization explained that the visit was a private arrangement made in coordination with monument management, scheduled just before regular opening hours to minimize disruption for other visitors.
In a statement released on the social media platform X, BAPS affirmed that no individuals were barred from entering the Eiffel Tower. They also apologized to anyone who may have felt hurt or inconvenienced by the incident.
This clarification came after a strike by Eiffel Tower employees, who claimed that female staff were removed from the premises during the delegation’s visit. The controversy arose from the private tour involving around 100 BAPS members who traveled to France for a temple inauguration ceremony in the suburbs of Paris.
Meanwhile, Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire announced that an investigation into the matter would commence as soon as possible. In his post on X, he expressed understanding of the anger expressed by Eiffel Tower employees and acknowledged that their concerns are valid. He emphasized the importance of uncovering all facts that led to the protests.
