New Delhi, August 14 (Kiran News) – From August 15, the FASTag Annual Toll Pass scheme will be launched across the country, allowing car, jeep, and van owners to cross designated toll plazas for just ₹15 per trip. Announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the pass will cost ₹3,000 and include 200 trips, with one trip defined as crossing a toll plaza once.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll scheme designed for non-commercial private vehicles. Its aim is to resolve long-standing concerns over toll plazas within a 60 km radius by making toll payments simple, affordable, and quicker. The scheme will reduce waiting times, ease congestion, and minimise disputes at toll plazas.

Motorists will not need to purchase a new FASTag, as the pass will be linked to their existing active FASTag associated with their vehicle registration number. The scheme applies only to toll plazas on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) operated by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It will not require repeated online recharges, making it particularly beneficial for daily commuters. The pass is non-transferable and can only be used with the registered vehicle.

Where Will It Work?

The pass will be valid only on NHAI-operated national highways and expressways, such as the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai–Nashik, Mumbai–Surat, and Mumbai–Ratnagiri routes. On state highways and municipal toll roads, the FASTag will function normally, and regular toll rates will apply. Examples include the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway, Atal Setu, Agra–Lucknow Expressway, Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway.

How to Activate the FASTag Annual Pass

According to the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), the pass can be activated only via the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI portal. Vehicle owners must first verify the eligibility of their vehicle and FASTag. Once verified, they can pay ₹3,000, after which the pass will be activated within two hours on the existing FASTag.

The pass will be valid for one year or until 200 toll crossings are completed — whichever comes first. After this limit, a recharge will be required.

Direct Savings of ₹7,000

At present, crossing a toll plaza 200 times in a year costs around ₹10,000. With the new pass, the cost will be ₹3,000, resulting in an approximate saving of ₹7,000 for passenger vehicle owners.
