Farooq Abdullah Warns of Crisis Amidst US-Iran Tensions

Srinagar, May 12: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has described the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States as a crisis. He expressed concern that if the situation does not improve, “only Allah knows what our condition will be.”

During a media interaction in Srinagar, Abdullah addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal regarding the crisis in gas and petrol supplies. He stated, “We are heading towards devastation. This is a very difficult time. We need to think and find a way out. Solutions cannot be achieved merely through online discussions. The economy is collapsing.”

Abdullah emphasized the potential consequences if the US-Iran conflict continues, saying, “Who knows what will happen?”

On the issue of alcohol controversy in the Valley, Abdullah remarked, “I do not drink alcohol; those who do will continue to drink. If they cannot find it here, they will go elsewhere. What can anyone do about it?”

He recalled a past incident when his father won an election, and then Prime Minister Morarji Desai, a staunch opponent of alcohol, proposed a ban on alcohol sales. Abdullah’s father agreed but requested compensation for the revenue lost from alcohol sales. “If the government is willing to compensate us for that revenue, we will stop it immediately,” he stated.

Abdullah pointed out that they did not open liquor stores. He questioned why there was no uproar when liquor shops were established in every village. “Now that there is nothing to say or do, people are making noise,” he concluded.
