Mumbai, May 29: The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Unit-8 has arrested two individuals outside the domestic airport in Mumbai. The suspects were found in possession of fake stamp papers valued at over ₹62.5 lakh. Authorities suspect that a larger racket may be operating behind this case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit Jadhav (37) from Badlapur and Narendra Ahire (46) from Koparkhairane.
According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, both suspects were on their way to deliver the fake stamp papers to another person when they were intercepted by the team outside the airport. During the search, officers recovered 251 fake non-judicial stamp papers, each valued at ₹25,000. The total estimated value of the seized papers is approximately ₹62,50,500.
Police believe these fake stamp papers were intended for use in various non-judicial activities and transactions.
Investigations revealed that Narendra Ahire may be the mastermind behind this entire racket. Police stated that Ahire had supplied these fake stamp papers to Rohit Jadhav for distribution.
Both suspects were presented in the Esplanade Court, where the court remanded them to seven days of police custody.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is now investigating the origin of the fake stamp papers, their intended recipients, and the involvement of other individuals in this network.
Previously, the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell conducted a major operation, arresting three individuals who had come to Mumbai to sell foreign weapons. According to police, all three suspects are from outside Maharashtra. They were apprehended during a late-night operation based on intelligence information.
Officials reported that they received a tip-off, leading to a police setup, and around 10:45 PM on Friday, the three suspects were caught red-handed.
Police recovered three pistols, magazines, and 45 cartridges from the suspects. Authorities noted that the weapons and cartridges were marked ‘Made in China.’ Investigation agencies are now working to determine how these weapons were smuggled into the country and their original source.
